Up to a fifth of the Central African Republic’s (CAR) five million population have fled their homes because of fighting or violence, and are today living as displaced persons or refugees.
‘I work for peace’ is a participative art project currently under development. The project will support MINUSCAs and UNOPS ongoing sensitization sessions in CAR – public meetings where people gather to discuss topics related to peace building. Sensitization activities amongst communities are already undertaken in 8 priority locations and surrounding areas using multimedia tools, with key messages developed and broadcasted by the MINUSCA-DDR Section in direct coordination with GoCAR/High Commissioner for DDR.
‘I work for peace’ will further strengthen the efforts to actively involve communities and highlight their key role in the peace process. The project will engage a group of ex-combatants in documenting their stories, as they participate in vocational training and officially change status from combatants to civilians.
Participative video is a powerful tool that can help people feel in control of the changes of life conditions, acknowledge the importance of their unique stories and make possible an in-depth dissemination of the participants perspective.
The content will be used in the sensitization activities, in local media and for public exhibitions to raise further awareness and support social coherence.
